Greater London, England, United Kingdom · Self-employed

Led the SPRK C1 concept and alpha prototype design, developing a last-mile delivery system with mass production in mind. The engineering approach considered product cost, logistics, assembly and repair as connected design requirements.

  • Concept design. Developed the C1 product concept and alpha prototype design around the practical requirements of last-mile delivery.
  • Cost engineering. Considered component selection, assembly complexity and logistics together to design for an affordable, mass-produced product.
  • Flat-pack design. Developed a flat-pack approach to reduce shipping volume and logistics costs.
  • Simplified assembly. Reduced design complexity with the aim of making the product straightforward to build, including for people without specialist assembly experience.
  • Common fixings. Standardised fixings to reduce fastener variety and simplify the assembly process.
  • Ease of repair. Selected off-the-shelf drive motor components so replacement and repair would be more straightforward.
